About Us

The Muslim community in Grimsby and the surrounding towns and villages has grown significantly since the 1960s. In the early years, Muslims gathered for prayers in private homes and community halls maintaining their faith and traditions without a dedicated mosque.

In 1988, the community established Grimsby’s first mosque. As the Muslim population continued to grow, it became clear that a larger and more suitable place of worship was needed. This led to the establishment of Grimsby Central Mosque in its present form in 2008.

Today, the mosque is a vibrant centre of worship and community life, serving a diverse congregation representing many different nationalities and backgrounds. It provides daily prayers, Jumu’ah, Islamic education, counselling and advice, and support with important life events including marriages, births, funerals and bereavement.

Our role extends beyond prayer. We are committed to supporting families, young people and the wider community, while creating opportunities for people to learn, participate and build lasting relationships. We also believe in positive engagement with the wider community. We regularly welcome schools, public sector organisations and visitors who wish to learn more about Islam and Muslims. Through educational visits, community events and initiatives such as Visit My Mosque, we seek to promote understanding, respect and meaningful dialogue.

Grimsby Central Mosque is built on the generosity, commitment and hard work of the local Muslim community. We continue to develop that legacy by serving the community and providing a welcoming home for generations to come.
